Meghan: Happy Love Month, Logline Followers! My most beloved book of last year was Margaret Renkl’s The Comfort of Crows. I adore everything Margaret writes. Her naturalist’s eye is dreamy and relatable to my nerdy sensibilities. Aldo Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac (1949) is one of my all-time favorite reads, and Margaret’s Crows is written in a similar format as she chronicles the year in a series of weekly essays about the wildlife around her. Her brother did the illustrations, which I found to be completely endearing. This one is easy to dip in and out of, or read in one fell swoop, but you won’t be disappointed by the gorgeous writing and Billy Renkl’s breathtaking art.
I hope wherever you are in the world, you are able to find some love and respite in a book!
Melissa: My TBR picture book pile has reached ridiculous proportions, but I just got my copy of Carrie Tillotson’s and Elisa Chavarri’s adorable ALPACAS HERE, ALPACAS THERE, and it’s a delight! Did you know alpacas “pronk”? They spring all four feet off the ground with straight legs at once. Hoping you find the perfect book that fills your heart and makes you want to pronk!
Anne: Ahh! I could go on and on, but some of my most beloved books from this past year were Leslie F*cking Jones by Leslie Jones (the audiobook!) Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad, All the Sinners Bleed by S.A. Cosby, The God of the Woods by Liz Moore, Sweet and Sour by Debbi Michiko Florence, Between Friends & Lovers by Shirlene Obuobi, Twenty-Four Seconds from now by Jason Reynolds and The Squad by Christina Soontornvat.
Kari: Is there a limit to how many books I can list? I’ve felt especially grateful for the chance to escape into books lately. In the last few months, my favorites have been Liz Moore’s GOD OF THE WOODS (adult fiction), Percival Everett’s JAMES (adult fiction), Chris Whitaker’s ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK (adult fiction), Christina Soontornvat’s THE LAST MAPMAKER (middle grade fiction) and Mari Mancusi’s NEW DRAGON CITY (middle grade fiction). I need to get back to my real love though: picture books!
Lindsay: I love love love so many books! I’m reading God of the Woods right now, and it’s so well written and keeps you guessing and wanting to turn the page. So, I’m loving that reading experience. Other books I love and have forever marked me in some way: Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood, Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh, and Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder. I’ll keep it adult for this post, since we always dabble in children’s books.
